Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, along with Sonia Gandhi, arrived in Kerala on Tuesday night, a day before marking her electoral debut by filing her nomination in the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll.
Upon her arrival, Priyanka was greeted by locals who also posed for pictures with the Congress general secretary. Several vidos surfaced, showing Priyanka accepting gifts, meeting locals and posing for pictures late on Tuesday.
She met an ex-serviceman who shared that his elderly mother, despite her condition, prayed for Priyanka every day and wished she could meet her in person. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra decided to visit their home, with a video surfacing online.
“The visit was filled with warmth and heartfelt conversations. In a touching gesture, the mother presented her cherished rosary, which she had used for years, as a symbol of her blessings and affection,” Congress said in a statement.
Priyanka and Sonia Gandhi were welcomed by Congress leaders when they reached Kerala’s Sultan Bathery on Tuesday. In a bid to solidify her position in the constituency once represented by her brother Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka held a small meet and greet session with the locals, posing for pictures and visiting their houses.
Priyanka Gandhi was welcomed by party leaders following her arrival in Wayanad.
She will be filing her nomination for the Lok Sabha bypoll on Wednesday in the presence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.
The Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, initially won by Rahul Gandhi, fell vacant following his decision to retain the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat. The BJP has fielded Navya Haridas as its candidate for the Wayanad bypoll.
Haridas, a two-time councillor and the BJP Mahila Morcha’s State General Secretary, will challenge Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi. Previously, she represented the NDA in Kozhikode South.
